List of countries/dependencies by population density in inhabitants/km². The figures in the following table are based on areas including inland water bodies (lakes, reservoirs, rivers). Population data is generally an estimate for July 2005. Only sovereign states are numbered, but non-sovereign territories are also included for purposes of comparison. The list is headed by a number of city-states, which are not necessarily the most densely populated cities (see, List of selected cities by population density).
